She is the founder of True Identity, the first intersex organization in Zimbabwe that promoted community awareness of intersex issues and advocated for the dignity, rights, and well-being of the LGBTQI community. Ngwaru, an intersex woman, had fled her home country of Zimbabwe to seek asylum and a safer life in America.
